Over my 20+ years in the Landscape industry, ideas or products have come and gone. Sometimes we scratch our heads and say why would I use that and other times we say, why didn't I think of that! About 10 or 12 years ago I started using Polymeric sand in all of my paving projects. Polymeric sand is a natural sand with granular polymers. The sand is swept into the joints and ran over with the compactor to lock it into the paver joints and then we wet the sand to activate the polymers. The polymers bind the sand together, prventing movement from rain, the hose, blowers and insects. Weed growth is also greatly slowed down. Super!
Now comes Gator Dust!
For years, flagstone walkways and patios laid on a gravel base had similar issues with the joint material staying in place and staying weed free. Gator Dust is a product to end those issues. Just as with Polymeric sand the Gator Dust is a natural gravel material mixed with granular polymers. These polymers bind the gravel together when water is applied, creating a solid joint which helps hold the stones in place.
Below are a few pictures of a walkway built about 5 years ago in the before shots. We removed the flagstone, excavated for the gravel base, installed steel edging and Gator Dust as you see in the afters.
Have you been thinking about a flagstone path but was concerned about the issues with traditional construction methods or, maybe you have an existing patio you need repaired ? Give us a call, we can help! Don"t forget to mention this idea or any other landscape needs to your family and friends in the Wilmington area. Green Side Up! has a great referral program!
